Picture this: It's late 2025. I'm running Postly, and from the outside, everything looks golden. We're growing fast, users love us, and the metrics are climbing. But behind the scenes? I'm drowning in my own success.

I'm in my apartment, surrounded by two monitors, a phone buzzing with Slack notifications, and a stack of contractor invoices I keep meaning to pay. My voice recorder is full of random thoughts—brilliant ideas mixed with grocery lists and half-formed anxieties about burning cash too fast.

Then it hits me: I've become a prisoner in my own productivity system.

I had built a company that helps others create content effortlessly, but I couldn't even keep track of my own thoughts. The irony was suffocating.

The Whispered Revelation

You know that moment when everything becomes crystal clear? Mine happened while walking my dog, Luna, at midnight. I started talking to myself, processing my day out loud: "Today I spent $47 on lunch, had three meetings where nothing got decided, and recorded six voice notes I'll never listen to again."

It reminded me of a past relationship where small resentments accumulated silently until everything exploded.

Money talks, but we've stopped listening. We swipe, tap, and click through purchases, disconnected from their emotional weight. I wanted Onu to be different—not a financial taskmaster, but a trusted friend who gently asks, "Are you sure this aligns with who you want to be?"

Here's something vulnerable: I'm terrible at reading the room during meetings.

I can build products, write code, and vision-cast, but noticing subtle tensions or overwhelm in my team? I'm blind. During one painful meeting, I watched our lead developer's energy shift from excited to defeated, and I had no idea why. Days later, I learned he felt unheard.

That moment haunted me. What if technology could capture not just what was said, but what was felt? What if it could whisper, "James has tried to speak three times but keeps getting interrupted. Check in with him."

Why "Onu" Means Everything to Me

My last name carries weight. In Igbo culture, "Onu" means "King"—not the conquering kind, but one who rules through wisdom, protection, and understanding.

My grandfather told stories of kings who knew every villager, sensed trouble before it arrived, and made decisions from connection, not ego. Building Onu feels like channeling that wisdom into code—a digital presence that helps you become more yourself, more aware, more connected.
